Pokémon X and Y: The Most Innovative Installment in the Series Yet

So the new Pokémon X and Y trailer is alright. I gotta say though, I feel like they’re really giving us a lot of filler content here.

I mean, riding a Pokémon through a city street? Boring.

Fun new trainer designs and an aesthetically pleasing environment? How droll.

New, beautiful 3D graphics with a certain obsolete charm? Lame.

Tons of new Pokémon, quite a few of which actually look pretty neat? Snoresville.

3D battles that flow more smoothly and make an effort so it looks like that the Pokémon are actually fighting? Like, OMG, gag me with a spoon.

But then… I saw something beautiful.

Pokemon Platinum.

What a load of horseshit.
A man wears a trenchcoat. This is because trench coats are commonly associated with both the crime and espionage genres, meaning he’s a cop or some kind of government official. The coat is brown because it’s a nice color. His hair is spiky because it’s a JRPG, and a lot of the characters in JRPGs have spiky hair, especially the male ones. He uses the codename “Looker” because he is looking for and observing things, and also to protect his identity, because if he used his real name it would blow his cover and compromise his mission.
I get it, I really do. The outfits are similar, and neither uses their real name, and they both want to stop a space-time anomaly from occurring. But people are trying to force a connection where I don’t believe there is one. It’s not like Professor Paradox from Ben 10, who’s an obvious homage to the Doctor. These are just superficial similarities.
Until somebody from Nintendo comes out and says that Looker is based on the Doctor, I’m not buying it. Did You Know Gaming is great when they share actual facts, not fan theories.

Injustice Request

A complaint I have about Injustice is that all the DLC costumes and unlockable stuff seems to go to a handful of A-listers, with one or two deviations. Every character has their Regime or Insurgency alts, but then there are a handful of characters that have bonus costumes, with most of them getting left behind. As such, here are my suggestions for everybody to get another costume, even the guys who already have a ton, because hey, I’m just having fun here. Also, because I was discussing it with a friend, how about an alternate Lantern Corps outfit for every character?

Aquaman: His traditional look. Label it as classic or New 52 or whatever, but the armor he wears in the game is a bit grand for my tastes. His Flashpoint costume’s pretty close to what he usually looks like, but I’d like the normal look for him.

-Lantern Corps: Red. This is because he’s both an aggressive guy, and his wife, Mera, was a Red Lantern during Blackest Night.

Ares: His New 52 look would be amazing.

-Lantern Corps: Red. He’s the god of war. Why wouldn’t he be all about rage?

Bane: I’d like to see a costume inspired by his appearance in The Dark Knight Rises.

-Lantern Corps: Sinestro Corps. Bane utilizes fear very effectively.

Batman: Adam West.

-Lantern Corps: None. Disqualified. He’s already got his Black Lantern outfit. But if I had to pick one, I’d forgo the traditionally thought-of Sinestro Corps and go Green instead, like in Darkest Night.

Black Adam: Shazam has his New 52 look in the game, why not Black Adam?

-Lantern Corps: Sinestro Corps. Black Adam rules through fear.

Catwoman: Batman: The Animated Series look.

-Lantern Corps: Orange. You think a master thief isn’t greedy?

Cyborg: New 52 look.

-Lantern Corps: Green. It takes will to go through such a major adjustment like Cyborg has.

Deathstroke: Classic outfit.

-Lantern Corps: Indigo. The Indigo Tribe would totally recruit the compassionless assassin for indoctrination.

Doomsday: Superdoom from Grant Morrison’s Action Comics is kinda neat.

-Lantern Corps: Red. Dude’s all about anger and violence.

The Flash: Reverse Flash.

-Lantern Corps: Blue, because he was a Blue Lantern in Blackest Night.

Green Arrow: Classic look. Feathered cap, please.

-Lantern Corps: Indigo. I think it’s because the bow and arrow thing goes well with the tribal motif.

Green Lantern: I’d like to play as Hal in his bomber jacket, but still using the ring.

-Lantern Corps: White.

Harley Quinn: ORIGINAL OUTFIT. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, ORIGINAL OUTFIT.

-Lantern Corps: Star Sapphire. Love is what turned her to crime in the first place.

Hawkgirl: New 52 Earth 2 Hawkgirl. I love her design.

-Lantern Corps: Red. Hawkgirl is a warrior from a warrior race.

The Joker: Death of the Family. That would be wonderfully horrifying to see in 3D.

-Lantern Corps: Sinestro Corps. Joker is SCARY.

Killer Frost: DCAU design. I mean, they already have Jennifer Hale voicing her.

-Lantern Corps: Indigo Tribe. Like Deathstroke, she has no compassion.

Lex Luthor: Let’s go with the classic Super Friends armor.

-Lantern Corps: Orange. He was one in Blackest Night.

Nightwing: Dick Grayson’s Batman outfit. That’d be fun.

-Lantern Corps: Blue. Dick Grayson tends to inspire those around him.

Raven: This look, with actual human skin color.

-Lantern Corps: Green. Resisting her father’s power takes a lot of will.

Shazam: I’d actually like to see the Flashpoint Captain Thunder version of the character.

-Lantern Corps: Blue. Billy Batson is practically the living embodiment of hope.

Sinestro: His Green Lantern outfit.

-Lantern Corps: White.

Solomon Grundy: Earth 2 avatar of the Grey Grundy.

-Lantern Corps: Black. He actually was one for a while.

Superman: Superman Beyond.

-Lantern Corps: Blue. Big Blue’s all about hope.

Wonder Woman: Earth 3’s Superwoman.

-Lantenrn Corps: Star Sapphire. She was one in Blackest Night.

So yeah, those are just some of my thoughts.

From this week’s Injustice: Gods Among Us Chapter 9. This video game tie-in comic has been phenomenal. Every single week has just impressed me so much. It has definitely gotten me more hyped up than the battle arena, and I totally plan to do a review of it sometime in the future. Tom Taylor and Jheremy Raapack have created a fantastic Elseworlds tale.

Disclaimer: I was a key creative in what is often considered one of the more “dudebro” franchises out there, Gears of War. I’d also like to remind everyone out there that I went out of my way in working with our team, the writers, and Epic’s artists to make sure that female characters are…

Cliffy B. speaks the truth. If you haven’t watched the first episode of Tropes vs. Women in Video Games yet, you should. Anita Sarkeesian isn’t just some raging feminazi, she makes great points. And I’m personally hoping that somebody shedding light on the portrayal of females in what is one of the largest parts of nerd culture will cause improvement in the other parts of nerd culture.

Death in the Family // Batgirl #16

It’s funny because Joker actually has a couple goons named Lefty and Righty in DC Universe Online. You fight them right before you fight Harley Quinn in the funhouse mission where you have to save Robin. I would like to imagine that this is the same Lefty.

Why hello there, small dog! Do you like PlayStation Games? Do you like reviews of PlayStation games? Click link to go to the Cheshire Cat Studios review of new game for PlayStation, PlayStation Allstars Battle Royale.

Hehe. Stupid dogs. Is only website name. There are no cats to chase, but they will run there anyway!

Wait, is microphone still on?

Two Injustice posts in a row? Damn!

I think anybody with half a brain knew Joker and GL were gonna be in the game, but it doesn’t mean I’m not happy to see confirmation. I’m also happy that they decided to use Hal.

The way I see it, deciding what characters go into the game largely relies on mainstream appeal, with maybe one or two dudes on the roster who will be there for the fans. The Trinity of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are obvious. Practically obligatory. Cyborg is a character DC’s been making a major push for. Harley, Joker, and Catwoman are all popular villains. Green Arrow’s got a shiny new TV show. Nightwing is fairly popular, and is currently on Young Justice, and he’s the most well-known Robin, so there’s that. Flash is a key member of the League, and his inclusion was about as obligatory as the Trinity’s.

And the thing is, Green Lantern’s inclusion is obligatory too. The question is, which one were they going to use? Obviously not Alan Scott or Kyle Rayner, because those characters have no mainstream appeal, even with the whole “ALAN SCOTT IS GAY” media spectacle a while back. John Stewart is popular thanks to the DCAU. Hal and Guy are on TV right now. And then there’s Baz, who DC might’ve put in the game just to advertise the character.

And that’s what I was worried about. I’m not exactly ecstatic that they used Hal instead of Guy (it would’ve been a nice change of pace to not use Hal for once), but hey, it works.

Not wild about how Joker looks, though. He seems kinda rubbery. Hopefully seeing him from a position besides the Kubrick Stare will fix that, though.
